Csengersima – Hungary

Csengersima – Hungary

This is a wonderful photo, so typical of the small village churches you can find in the north and eastern part of Hungary. (Indeed Csengersima may be one of the most eastern villages of modern-day Hungary being 2.5 kilometres from the Romanian border to the east.) The church is clearly Protestant/Calvinist/Reformatus: there is an earthiness, a peasant practicality to the design (as compared to the ornate, Baroque, and Catholic churches in the West of Hungary). The wooden panelling on the ceiling is very typical of the area.

The photographer, Gabó, is quite prolific on Flickr and will reward all visitors with her array of wonderful photos. A perfect example of why the Internet is such a wonderful place!
